VIP treatment

There has been a lot of talk about, Shahrukh khan, the omnipresent bollywood star facing “detention”

Every channel is hyping it trying to get some viewer attention to itself.
Everybody who has taken to twitter, have been tweeting about it..

Ambika soni screams “tit-for-tat” …      Priyanka chopra calls it a “disgrace”, “SRK is a world figure for God’s sake”…   Chiranjeevi came out with “incident is an insult to the entire nation”…  Where is your statement on the 29 farmer suicides in AP.. Mr Jeevi?

The odd part of the episode is that SRK chose to call Congress MP  “Rajiv shukla”  to complain about this “third worldly treatment” meted out to the “badshah”

Some claim that SRK has “downplayed” the incident. I wonder what they mean by that.  What was the need to call Mr Shulka if not to complain and get attention.

Compare this with Our beloved former prime minister Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, after he was frisked against establishment rules, the incident came to the media’s attention after 3 months!!!

He claims that just because his name was “khan” he was detained. Scores and scores of muslim bretheren go through the same thing. Mr Khan never bothered about their plight, but when he “the king khan” was asked to step aside for questioning, he is all up in arms.

Welcome to the “real world”, mr SRK. Every indian undergoes the “third class treatment”  in his own country every day. You are just an actor, and quite good at that. “Full stop”.

A lot of blogs on the net have been talking about how this has been blown out of propotion,  I whole heartedly second this opinion!!

It could very well be possible that he might have deliberately not answered the immigration officers question in order to get detained which would work wonders for his upcoming file ‘My Name is Khan’. Again the above statement is my wild guess and is not based on any material or immaterial facts. more

 

Tubed in

I had been to my hometown, and after seeing my niece’s complete addiction to TV, started wondering how my childhood was. TV had just started to appear in the neighborhood (license raj against owning TV/radio were just ending those days) and not much program’s where there. Cartoons like spider-man, he-man, jungle book etc were a mega hit amongst the kids.

But mostly we were on the streets playing all kinds of games or fighting! What did you think? Colonies are the birth place of street fights and gang wars!

My niece, now 7, will not sit down unless she gets the remote in her hand, a trait she has learnt from my dad, her grandpa. My dad, when he was alive, was a control freak with respect to TV.  

She’ll not go out to play, even if she does its not more than a couple of hours; in terms of percentages, its like 1% outside, 99% in front of the TV.

With chutti TV (Tamil kids channel) playing almost all famous cartoons in tamil and Jetix streaming chinese cartoons dubbed in tamil, kids are finding it easier to follow, I guess.  If the tube is playing, almost always its either Pogo/CN/Chutti/Jetix!  Somehow the elders of the family have managed to make a deal with her, she allows them to watch their soaps.

Food stays on the plate, toys are collecting dust, home work gets done only when her tired mom returns from work and takes charge. She knows all the mega serials, thanks to my mom and other elders of the family, and can narrate the stupid stories better than anyone. She knows how to unlock even if channels are locked so its futile.

She’s not alone, I keep hearing these stories from all directions. hmm…
