If you were prepaid mobile user, you’dve used prepaid mobile service provided by your favourite bank. I did too, and it misfired. The recharge never happened. This is a narration about the incident.

A lot of my friends had complained about ICICI, I never had any problem with them. I got a chance to taste what my friends were talking about during the course of getting my mobile recharge amount refunded back.
Luckily ICICI provides issue escalation chains, and I used it. The problem was rectified in a single day. Thus even after all the hardships, I felt gratified that my problem was handled the way it should have been.

Ok, before I let you get into the details of the communications, here is the problem summary. I did a mobile recharge over ICICI bank for airtel and it never happened. ICICI bank debited my account instaneously, but even after waiting for 5 days there was no recharge on my mobile.  I used the banks mailing facility to contact tech support, after being treated like a dumbo, I escalated the issue. I even tried contacting their backoffice (Euronet worldwide), the rats didnt even bother to attend to my problem.

I did a prepaid mobile recharge yesterday (17th sept) for 599, Airtel karnataka. The transaction was successful and it reflects in my statement. However there is no credit to my mobile prepaid account.

I called up Airtel, they claim to have not received the amount. Can you please let me know how to get back my money. This is really becoming a painful experience.

At this point I got really irritated. It takes me 5 days to convince them that the mobile recharge did not take place. Now they want 5 more days to fix the problem. Holy crap. I decided to use the escalation chain.

Dear Mr Anirudh,

I have been a happy Customer of ICICI bank since 1999, and I regret to tell you that the quality of service has gone down to pathetic levels. Instead of focusing on the problem and attempting to solve it, your CS people are engrossed in maintaining bureaucratic conventions.

I did a mobile recharge for 599 rupees and it never showed up. It takes me 5 days to convince your customer support person that my mobile recharge didnt take place. They finally take down a SR. Now it will take another 5 days to get it rectified it seems.

A simple search in google.com, shows that there are many who had the same bad experience. A Mobile recharge over citibank takes me exactly 5 minutes to reflect. What is the use of computerizing ICICI when to just lookup the transaction and see what has happened to it, takes 10 days?

I think its time your bank did something to rectify this. Kindly request you to please follow the mail thread with subject “ICICICARE=XXX-8XX-4XX’ Bill Payment”.

Request you to rap/change the back-office people (Euronet worldwide) who are handling mobile recharges on behalf of ICICI bank and instruct your Customer support folks to focus on people rather than on procedures.

I want my money back, please.

Wonder if I’ll do a prepaid recharge over ICICI bank again.

This movie has perfect timing. It came to screen when terror blasts had rocked the capital and people were all angry.  The movie I thought was quite plain, but with a strong ending. In fact, the way it moved, I thought this would be another desi version of die-hard or the speed series.  Ofcourse there are straight lift-offs.

There are some questions that do remain in your head at the end of the movie. For instance, what did he plant all around the city, if they were not bombs? Why do it at all, when the one inside the police station was good enough? The technology theme seems similar to the speed. Anupam kher, Naseeruddin shah have acted very well. The teen age hacker, I felt was un-hackerly. He looked too much of a kid to really come off as a hacker. And this is a lift from die-hard 4.  Jimmy shergill tries to act tough, the way he trashes the rouges looked awkward.

What I could not understand is the debate that it started in a top line news channels. The host wanted to convey the message that the movie was without taste, and her impression that the movie suggested ordinary citizens to take up law in their own hands in the fight against terrorism, which they felt was unacceptable.

They cried against it and equated it to the salva-judum movement. For those of you who are unaware of this movement, it is an Anti-naxal movement where the goverment arms ordinary citizens to fight the naxal manace. It has its own history of human rights violation.

Oh please, its just a movie. Havent you seen one before? There has been umpteen number of movies where the ordinary citizen has acted taking up law in his/her hands. If you dont like it, write your review, leave it at that. Whats the point of wasting prime time talking your ‘feelings’. Go and help those poor flood water victims of Bihar and Orrisa.

Or Is this a ploy? Are they creating the hype required to get some attention to the movie. I have heard about movie marketing consultants who guarantee an amount as profit and and use different methods to get the viewer’s attention. May be this is one such scheme.
